Books Save Lives

Mission Statement

Reading is a key to emotional health, responsible citizenship, and successful living; yet, some people lose the joy and stop altogether. We need to prevent that from happening and KEEP EM READING & WRITING.

How to Keep Them Reading & Writing

During morning announcements or any time during the school day, educators can virtually access and show a free video of a popular author who writes specifically for teens and tweens. Authors provide the day’s date, answer one of three questions—why read?, why write?, or why live by a certain tenet of life?—and then booktalk three of their popular novels.

Life-Saving Books

Teachers and authors are often the unsung heroes of children on the brink of self-destruction.  By offering books to adolescents to help them momentarily escape the pain of growing up, teachers offer teens and tweens a constructive way to survive the crisis, find hope, and know that they are not alone. To see a list of books that potentially can save a life, visit the Joan F. Kaywell Books Save Lives Award. To better understand How Books Save Lives, watch this Tedx Talk Video.
